Overview

If you own or operate a UK road tanker that transports petroleum products, you may need to participate in the Safe Loading Pass Scheme (SLPS). SLPS inspections are conducted every six months by approved inspectors to allow access to fuel loading terminals in the UK. The scheme is owned by the UK Petroleum Industries Association (UKPIA) and supported by the Tank Storage Association (TSA).

To obtain a Safe Loading Pass (SLP), a vehicle must be inspected by an approved SLPS inspector. The inspection will check the vehicle for compliance with a number of safety standards, including:

  • The design and construction of the vehicle
  • The condition of the vehicle’s safety equipment
  • The operation of the vehicle’s loading and unloading systems
  • Ensuring the tank has a current in date Vapour Tightness Test (VTT)

If the vehicle meets the required inspection standard, it will be issued with an SLP for a maximum period of six months. The SLP must be displayed on the vehicle when entering a fuel loading terminal.

The SLPS is an important safety initiative that helps to reduce the risk of accidents and incidents at fuel loading terminals. By ensuring that road tankers and trailers meet specified safety standards, the SLPS helps to protect the environment and the public.

The BES Group offers SLPS inspections for tanks with valid Vapour Tightness Test Certificates and issues disks to enable tanks to access fuel terminals.

Our inspection services are completed in a timely and efficient manner, so you can get your tanker back on the road as quickly as possible. If you are looking for a reliable and efficient SLPS inspection, contact us today. We also offer several other inspection and certification services for tankers, so you can get everything you need to comply with the SLPS in one place.
