A snapshot of our Welding Certification Services
Welding Certification is the process where welders, welding procedures, or welding organisations are evaluated and validated to ensure they meet specific industry standards and regulatory requirements. At BES Group, we are here to help you verify the quality of your welding procedures and welders with our end-to-end service including witness welding, inspection, NDT & mechanical testing, and welding certification.
Welder Certification or Qualification
Based on a specific weld test, individual welders are certified to verify their skill level and competency within a ‘range of Qualification’.
Welder Recertification or Requalification
An individual that was previously certified undergoes additional testing to renew their certification if the original is not able to undergo a prolongation.
Welding Procedure Qualification (WPQ)
Based on a specific weld test, a preliminary Welding Procedure Specification (pWPS) is certified within a ‘range of Qualification’. This demonstrates the ability to create a high-integrity weld in line with relevant quality and safety standards. WPS documents can be written within the WPQR’s range of qualification and outlines the details of the process, materials, and specifications to be followed.

Welding Certification at BES Group
Explore Welding Certification- Globally recognised for Welding Certification Services
- Our comprehensive Testing and Inspection solutions for Welding
- How can our Welding Certification Services benefit you?
- What industries require Welding Certification Services?
Here at BES Group, we hold UKAS and INAB accreditations to enable recognition within our sector – globally.
British Engineering Services is a UK Approved Body and holds UKAS accreditation to issue certification for permanent joining procedures and personnel in accordance with the requirements of the Pressure Equipment (Safety) Regulations 2016 (PE(S)R) and National Regulations such as Pressure System Safety Regulations (PSSR).
Vertigo Inspection (ROI) LTD trading as Irish Engineering Services is an EU27 Notified Body and hold INAB accreditation to issue certification for permanent joining procedures and personnel in accordance with the requirements of the EU Pressure Equipment Directive (PED) and the UK Pressure Equipment (Safety) Regulations (PE(S)R).
We provide a complete solution for testing and inspecting welded materials.
Non-destructive Testing and Mechanical Testing for welds aim to assess the physical properties of the welded material to determine its strength, durability, and overall quality. Non-destructive Testing is ideal as it provides valuable information without causing permanent damage.
Welding Inspections are a crucial step in maintaining the structural integrity and safety of welded joints. Our in-depth examinations and evaluation of welded joints help to verify their compliance with required standards or specifications.
Destructive Weld Testing is often used when inspections require a more in-depth analysis, testing the sample to the point of failure. This type of testing can help determine how the material or weld will react under extreme conditions.
Please refer to BES Group UKAS accreditation schedules for more information.
With our extensive experience, accreditation, and advanced testing capabilities, BES Group is your trusted partner for all your welding certification needs.
Our services cover an end-to-end service, including:
- Witness all Weld Procedure/Welder Qualification test pieces at the applicable location
- Testing carried out at our ISO17025 UKAS accredited Laboratory’s for NDT & Mechanical Testing
- Issue of Weld Procedure Qualifications under ISO17020 UKAS accreditation
- Issue of Welder Qualification/Operator Qualification Certification under ISO17024 UKAS accreditation
- Ongoing continued Welder Qualification prolongations where required

Manufacturing, Fabrication and Foundries
Welding is a key process in many areas of manufacturing, as this helps to guarantee the quality of the welds on metal structures, parts, and products to confirm the durability and safety of manufactured components.

Oil, Gas and Power Generation
Certified welding is an essential part of the installation and maintenance of onshore and offshore oil rigs and refineries, as pipelines will be subjected to high pressures, heat and corrosive environments.

Pipeline, Construction and Maintenance
Certification of pipelines is necessary to ensure the integrity of pipes used in a variety of industries, such as gas distribution, water and sewage, and oil pipelines. Assess the quality of the weld helps to prevent leaks, ruptures or environmental hazards.

Construction and Infrastructure
Welding Certification ensures the safety and stability of rail and road infrastructure, bridges and building constructions, verifying that steel joints and connections can withstand long-term stresses caused by their environment.
Aerospace
The aerospace industry has mandatory welding certifications for different aircraft components to verify safety and quality procedures to prevent failures or defects.
