What are the consequences of not conducting electrical remedial repairs?
+
Failing to conduct electrical remedial works can pose significant risk to the duty holders.
Some of the most significant risks include:
- Fire: Ignoring C1 faults will cause risk of electrical fires.
- Electric shock: Unresolved C1 electrical issues may expose live electrical parts, leaving your people at risk of electric shocks.
- Accidents: Faulty electrical systems can cause accidents and injuries, risking safety and potential liability claims.
- Legal action: Failure to fix C1 faults can result in liability claims and associated legal fines, which can be expensive for your business.
- Fines: Non-compliance with electrical safety regulations can lead to hefty fines for your business.

Will I have to isolate the power?

Remedial work refers to the repairs and upgrades needed to fix electrical faults or potential problems. It ensures that your electrical components meet safety and compliance standards. Some of the most common electrical remedial works include replacing faulty wiring, repairing electrical sockets, upgrading circuits, and fixing loose connections. Which EICR codes require Electrical Remedial Work?
+
EICRs have four different codes to identify the severity of issues found during an inspection. The EICR codes are as follows:
- C1: Danger present. There’s an immediate risk of injury or fire, so remedial work is required imminently to avoid danger or accidents.
- C2: Potentially dangerous. Faults aren’t creating an immediate risk of danger, but if left unresolved, they could be dangerous. Remediation work is required urgently.
- FI: Further investigation. An additional investigation is needed to assess the exact issue and determine next steps.
- C3: Improvement recommended. No remedial work is required, but improvements are recommended to enhance safety and efficiency.
What is BS 7671?
+
BS 7671 is known as the IET Wiring Regulations. It sets the UK’s national standard for electrical installation safety, providing comprehensive guidelines on design, installation, inspection, and testing. These regulations help to ensure your electrical components are safe, reducing the risk of electrical hazards like shocks and fires.
Will Electrical Remedial Work cause disruption to my business?
+
At BES Group, we work with you to ensure minimal operational disruption. Our remedial repair specialists work around your schedule to conduct repairs at a time that suits you, including shutdown periods.
Any disruption to your business will be reduced as much as possible. This will only be temporary to ensure your electrical components’ safety and compliance, and to limit the risk of unnecessary downtime in the future. For example, we can conduct remedial work outside of regular retail store or office hours, to avoid any interruption with customers, colleagues or daily operations.
