What is Spark Testing?

Spark testing, also known as holiday testing, is a non-destructive testing (NDT) method used to detect defects in plastic linings and coatings.

AC spark testing is typically used on thermoplastic linings with a conductive backing strip, while DC spark testing is used on non-conductive coatings applied to a conductive substrate.

Both AC and DC spark testing work by passing a high-voltage electrical current through the lining or coating. If there is a defect in the lining or coating, the electrical current will arc through the defect, creating a spark. This spark can be detected visually and/or audibly.
