Storage Tank Inspection to EEMUA 159
Safeguarding Your Storage Tanks with EEMUA 159 Compliance Inspections
At BES Group, we understand the critical role storage tanks play in various industries, from storing hazardous chemicals to preserving valuable liquids. Ensuring the integrity of your tanks is paramount to preventing potential failures that could lead to catastrophic consequences.
Why EEMUA 159 Inspections are Essential
EEMUA 159 is a globally recognised standard for the inspection of atmospheric and low-pressure storage tanks. It provides a comprehensive set of guidelines for conducting thorough and effective inspections, ensuring that your tanks meet the highest safety standards.
BES Group is your trusted partner for EEMUA 159 inspections, providing a comprehensive range of services to safeguard your storage tanks and comply with industry regulations. Our experienced and qualified team utilises the latest technology and methods to ensure the accuracy and effectiveness of our inspections.

-
Non-Destructive Testing (NDT): Our team employs advanced NDT techniques, such as ultrasonic thickness testing (UT), magnetic particle inspection (MPI), dye penetrant inspection (DPI), visual inspection, magnetic flux leakage (MFL) floor mapping, and laser differential settlement surveys/planar tilt surveys, to detect any potential problems.
-
Fitness for Service and Remaining Life Assessment: We evaluate the fitness for service and remaining life of your tanks, ensuring they can withstand the intended service pressures, temperatures, and fluid properties.

As part of the LPC Rules for Automatic Sprinkler Installations 2015 incorporating BS EN12845, at no more than 10-Year intervals, all storage tanks shall be examined internally.
We understand why clients may not want a sprinkler tank drained for the internal inspection process. That is why we provide full ROV surveys, using high-spec submersible digital camera equipment and ultrasound. Full water supply is maintained throughout the inspection, keeping sprinkler systems available throughout the inspection. This method also conserves water and eliminates the need for re-commissioning a sprinkler tank, reducing costs.
Our technicians and inspectors, who are available throughout the UK, are qualified in PCN and EEMUA 159 / API 653 standards. They produce comprehensive “Fit for Purpose” reports. Typically, tank inspections are conducted alongside other NDT methods to provide a complete inspection service.
When we inspect a sprinkler tank and its connection points, we include:
- Full analysis of the sprinkler tank’s panels and walls
- Careful review of any roof and its supports
- Inlet valves, contents gauges and immersion heater elements
- Access routes, including ladders
- All the pipe connection points
