Project overview
Solenis is a leading global producer of specialty chemicals for water-intensive industries, including the pulp, paper, oil and gas, chemical processing, mining, biorefining, power and municipal markets.
The challenge
To keep the business and its machinery and equipment safe and compliant, the UK Plant and Integrity Manager, Mr Ian Ridley, developed a Control of Major Accident Hazards (COMAH) inspection regime.
This was created in partnership with BES Group that is closely monitored by the Health and Safety Executive. Our partnership with Solenis includes the first ‘intelligent customer concept’ which includes an Integrity Management System managed by both companies working together.
The solution
As part of our ongoing partnership with Solenis, we completed a large-scale programme of inspections in June 2019.
With a lot of ageing plant, it was seen necessary to do these during a large and extremely technically challenging outage.
The results
After months of planning, we agreed to send eight specialist Engineer Surveyors to be headed by Peter Cairns, and five specialist Non-Destructive Testing Technicians.
The team spent time working on 10 tanks, two GRP tanks, a caustic tank and four further tanks.
Key outcomes
Development of a Control of Major Accident Hazards (COMAH) inspection regime in partnership with the BES Group that is closely monitored by the Health and Safety Executive.
First ‘intelligent customer concept’ which includes an Integrity Management System managed by both companies working together.
Large-scale programme of inspections completed in June 2019, involving eight specialist Engineer Surveyors and five specialist Non-Destructive Testing Technicians working on 10 tanks, two GRP tanks, a caustic tank and four further tanks.
