Overview
Our team really are the specialists when it comes to expert Electric Vehicle (EV) chargepoint installations.
We’re committed to supporting our customers with their fleet requirements and making their transportation to sustainable transport as smooth as possible. When it comes to electric vehicles, having the right charging infrastructure in place is key.
With Dundee Council growing its established electric vehicle charging point availability, Boyd Brothers, part of the BES Group, was delighted to do their bit and meet Dundee City Councils’ requirements to provide an enhanced EV charge point offering to the local population.
The challenge
As Dundee City Council continued to grow its own electric vehicle charging infrastructure, they knew they needed to expand its charging network.
This meant that they had to consider an all-inclusive EV infrastructure that met the needs of outlying areas as well as a number of stakeholder partners. This included the University of Dundee, NHS Tayside, Dundee and Angus College and local taxi companies.
The solution
To find the solution to this project, the council, working in partnership with local authorities, developed the concept of an “EV charging gateway.”
This would be used to link the city’s charging infrastructure with neighbouring regions. Overall, the key aim of this project was to make comprehensive and shared infrastructure that met the EV charging needs of the city and neighbouring region available for all.
The result
The city’s main charging hub opened in July 2018 and was described at a European EV forum as “a globally significant development in electric vehicle charging.”
The hub contains 6 x 50kW and 3 x 22kW charging units and is complemented with PV (solar panel) canopies and Energy Storage, which makes this hub truly self-sufficient and sustainable.
