The Challenge
In 2016, the Flying Scotsman underwent an extensive restoration, transitioning from a ‘working museum exhibit’ back to an active participant on the rails. This transformation posed numerous challenges, requiring meticulous attention to detail and a range of specialised services, including non-destructive testing and routine inspections. Our team of expert Engineer Surveyors were tasked with the responsibility of revitalising the Flying Scotsman, ensuring it met safety standards and retained its historical integrity.

Our specialist Engineer Surveyors were instrumental in the comprehensive restoration efforts, bringing their expertise to the table for non-destructive testing, routine inspections, and various other crucial tasks. The team worked tirelessly to address the unique challenges posed by a historic locomotive, employing a tailored approach to ensure the Flying Scotsman not only met modern safety standards but also retained its authenticity.
The Result
Fast forward to the present day, and the Flying Scotsman is not just operational but continues to embark on special passenger tours across the UK. Recently, during heritage equipment training in Warrington and Bury, our team had the opportunity to reconnect with the Flying Scotsman, finding it safely undercover and awaiting its next adventure.
