What is Condition Monitoring?
Condition Monitoring is a predictive maintenance strategy that relies on analysing real time data from an asset to help predict issues and failures based on the condition of the asset. The purpose of this is to avoid larger scale issues and prevent downtime with timely repairs and replacements.
Using advanced high-tech sensors installed directly onto the assets, diagnostic data such as temperature, vibration levels and pressure is then reported to the relevant people. This is also known as wireless Condition Monitoring.
Using a variety of techniques and technology, this data can then be analysed to help detect potential faults. The two most common uses for condition monitoring are:
Condition checking
This relies on regular measurements and readings from the asset being reported on whilst it is in use so that the current condition of the asset can be assessed.
Trend monitoring
Using continuous measurements and data analysis, this method identifies trends in asset performance that can highlight a potential issue and help determine the asset lifespan.
Whichever method of condition monitoring data you opt for will allow you to generate alerts to let you know of any issues so that the fault can be addressed promptly.
